On September 5, 2004, the League held a 10th anniversary remembrance service at Sewickly Cemetery. The September 8, 2004 service, originally planned for the crash site, had to be moved inside to the Holiday Inn Pittsburgh Airport due to heavy rain. The League would like to thank the Reverend William Hower for his thoughts and prayers, Stephanie Frashetti for singing "The Love Remains," a song written for the families in 1995 by Stephanie, and Richard Manning for playing "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes. Former Chairman of the NTSB Jim Hall spoke at the September 8th service and praised the Flight 427 ADSL for changing the way vicitims and families of air disasters are treated around the world. He told us that, because of our efforts and persistance, the NTSB and American Red Cross now give the families information and direction, not the involved airline.
Over 300 family and friends of USAir Flight 427 passengers and crew attended these remembrance services.
The Board decided at its annual meeting that future remembrance services will be held each September 8th at 6:30 PM at the monument in Sewickley Cemetery. All league members are welcome to attend.
The 11th anniversary remembrance service will take place at Sewickley Cemetery on Thursday, September 8th at 6:45 pm.
